When Ageing Well client Betty said she wanted to visit Adelaide for a week, we said why not?

Betty Foster has been an Ageing Well client for over two years, receiving one-on-one home care support. Betty is Deaf and has low vision.

In 2019, the Ageing Well team worked with Betty to facilitate a week-long trip from her home in Brisbane to Adelaide, where she grew up.

An Ageing Well support worker accompanied Betty for the whole trip, supporting her independence every step of the way.

“I visited with friends every day as well as touring around Adelaide,” Betty says. “I laughed every day. Many thanks for assisting me.”

Deaf Services Aged Care Manager Dr Leena Vuorinen says that Betty’s story is just one example of how Ageing Well empowers clients to stay socially connected and active.

“We always try to educate our consumers about the range of options they have,” says Dr Vuorinen. This was something Betty had been dreaming about. It’s so rewarding to me to support people to live their lives the way they want to.”
