Another millionaire is made! Martin’s milestone win

9

For Martin, an ordinary Thursday at work turned into a moment he’ll never forget.

The Adelaide local had won $1 million in Deaf Lottery 231 – and he had absolutely no idea.

Martin had bought his tickets on 20th July for $30, then got on with his day without giving them another thought. Little did he know, he was about to become our newest millionaire.

Back at Deaf Connect’s Brisbane office, the team gathered in the kitchen as our Head of Lottery, Paul Stockwell, picked up the phone to deliver the life-changing news.

“I was definitely in shock at first. Completely speechless,” Martin said.

After Paul reassured him that the win was real, Martin walked out to share the news with his colleagues.

“I think I’ve just won a million dollars.”

The room went quiet. At first, his colleagues weren’t convinced. After all, a call telling you that you’ve won $1 million sounds like something straight out of a movie!

“They didn’t really believe me at first,” Martin said. “But now it’s starting to sink in, and everyone’s been asking about the Deaf Lottery.”

A campervan, family time and big adventures ahead

Fast-forward a few months, and Martin has been busy planning how to make the most of his million-dollar win.

First on the list? A new campervan, so he and his wife can hit the road and explore Australia together.

“We’ve always wanted to do more travelling, so having a campervan will give us the freedom to explore Australia at our own pace,” he said.

There are a few other plans in the works, too. Martin has set aside $10,000 for home improvements through a Harvey Norman gift card, $20,000 in Flight Centre gift cards for future holidays and $20,000 in cash.

Helping his family get ahead

For Martin, this win is also about making a difference for the people closest to him.

He's planning to buy his son a new car and help him get into his first property.

“It’s great to be able to help him out. Without this win, he would’ve had to buy a property 30 kilometres away,” he said.

And it all started with a phone call he never expected.
