Did you know there is an Olympics for the Deaf Community? Deafness is not a paralympic disability sport, instead Deaf Australians can compete in the Deaflympics every four years, which actually predates the Paralympic Games.

Deaf Connect and the Deaf Lottery have a long association with Deaf sports, and we're thrilled to be the major sponsor of team Australia at this year's Deaflympics in Tokyo.

The Deaflympics are the highest level of attainment for Deaf athletes. We can’t wait to Team Australia compete on the world stage!

Fresh off their Gold and Silver medals in the Asia Pacific Deaf Basketball Championships, the men’s and women's basketball teams (the Goannas and the Gecko’s) will be one of the teams to watch at the Deaflympics this year.

One of these athletes is Sam Cartledge, the starting point guard for the Australian Men’s Deaf Basketball Team.

Here’s what he had to say about the journey:

Your support helps people like Sam to connect with other Deaf people across Australia and the world – creating culture, connection, and a strong community.
